Sulfur cubes with magma blocks can damage players from significantly further away than they can damage any other entities.
Steps to observe:
Put a sulfur cube with a magma block in a 1x1 hole in the ground
Dig a hole 1 block away on each diagonal
Place a mob in that hole pushed up against the corner, and observe whether it gets damaged or not
Remove the mob and enter that hole yourself, pressed up against the corner
Expected result: Either both you and the mob would get damaged from the sulfur cube peeking out of the corner, or neither of you would get damaged (ie, consistent results)
Actual result: The mob does not take any damage, but the player will take damage (inconsistent)
The results also donβt change if a mannequin is used as the mob even though they have the exact same hitbox as the player.
