Poplar leaves appear green on maps

Dappled forests are shown in green on maps, even though they are mostly shades of brown. In particular, all three colors of poplar tree leaves are depicted as green, despite actually being yellow, orange, and cherry red; likewise, the grass blocks appear green despite being brown-orange.
It’s a huge inconvenience and a letdown to have a map that misrepresents the terrain. It doesn’t convey the information it’s supposed to, and it doesn’t help players locate and navigate to the desired destination since the biome (a dappled forest) isn’t even distinguishable on the map.

Steps to reproduce:

Find a dappled forest. Open a new map while in this biome. Observe the colors on the map. They should be mostly yellow, orange, red, brown and almost no green at all, but instead the area is depicted mostly in green.

Short of adding the biome coloring feature from bedrock, I’m not sure the best way to address the grass color. I would caution away from adopting the biome color feature from bedrock because of the difficulties it would introduce in choosing a location for the construction of artwork using maps.

I agree though that the leaf colors should change, much like how cherry trees and pale oak leaves are reflected accurately on the map. I would put forth the colors 50 TERRACOTTA_RED, 37 TERRACOTTA_ORANGE, and 40 TERRACOTTA_YELLOW as a good match for red, orange and yellow poplar leaves respectively.

While we are at it, the red shrub ought to be red and the shelf mushroom should be brown, as both are currently rendered as color 7 PLANT.

Players can always choose a more suitable spot to make artwork using maps, although only a small percentage of the player base does this. Also, that isn’t what maps are primarily for. The vast majority of players (that this bug affects) use maps for their intended purpose. It’s a huge inconvenience and a bummer to have a map that misrepresents the terrain. It doesn’t convey the information it’s supposed to, and it doesn’t help players navigate to the desired destination, since the area isn’t even distinguishable on the map.

I understand that fixing this would be difficult, time consuming, and a lot of work, but we should agree that maps shouldn’t work this way. Hopefully, if we agree, this will encourage Mojang to add the issue to their workflow, fix it at some point and give the players more accurate maps.
