Immediate item despawn after dying via falling to death on leaves

Well, it’s what the title says. On a Survival world on Minecraft version 26.2, I attempted to soften my landing from a moderate drop with landing on leaves. However, when I died (misjudging the distance), my items immediately despawned. Considering I had multiple Nether items and a whole lot of building materials I was collecting for over a week, this was incredibly demotivating.

To recreate it, all you need to do is have items and then land after a significant fall on leaves that will cause your player model to die. You will notice that about a second later, your items will despawn in front of you.

As far as I know, while leaves are blocks that cannot allow for entities to spawn on them, this shouldn’t cause items to entirely disappear IMMEDIATELY after the player dies.

It is (possibly) relevant to note that I was approximately 6,000 blocks from spawn. I don’t know if this could be a chunk issue that maybe doesn’t affect players who die at spawn, but if it could be, well, I will just keep this information here as reference.
