Description:
When a player equips a pair of boots enchanted with Soul Speed exactly as they are broken, the player keeps the movement_speed/efficiency attribute modifier applied from the Soul Speed effect until death, disconnect or until a new pair of Soul Speed boots is equipped.
Reproduction:
This bug can be reproduced by repeating the following steps as shown in the following video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7qkK1Io7-Ls
Step 1. Build a long straight line made of soul sand blocks.
Step 2. Equip a normal pair of boots and place a pair of boots with soul speed and on low durability in your hotbar (the command “/give @a leather_boots[enchantments={soul_speed:3},damage=64]” will do).
Step 3. Switch to survival mode and start running on the soul sand, while rapidly spamming right-click on the boots in the hotbar.
Once the pair of boots enchanted with Soul Speed break you should still have the movement attribute modifiers, even though you are not wearing any Soul Speed boots anymore. The attributes are kept even when equipping/removing different boots without Soul Speed.
This doesn’t always work and you might have to try multiple times until the bug occurs.
Further notes:
I noticed that sometimes you could get the player model to not wear any boots while the UI still shows half an armor bar. This makes me believe that client behaviour as at least somewhat at fault here, but I’m really not too sure why this happens.
EDIT: I forgot armor is also done with attributes and after some investigating this bug is definitely caused by server behaviour (The server keeps sending the movement_speed attribute modifiers even though it clearly should know that the boots have broken). Possibly this bug could also be used to permanently keep the armor attributes from a broken piece of armor
