Certain blocks, such as slime blocks, honey blocks, and several types of plant, possess dedicated sound events for the “process of breaking”. However, these sound events can never actually be encountered in normal gameplay since the blocks that they’re associated with always break instantly regardless of item or player state. The only way I’ve managed to encounter them in practice, besides /playsound, involves giving yourself Mining Fatigue of level 86 or higher and then punching the block.
In contrast, there exist other blocks in the game that break instantly which have no associated “hit” sound whatsoever. Punching these blocks under those conditions will produce no audio.
Blocks which have no "hit"/"breaking" sound event:
Dried Ghast
Red Shrub
Cactus Flower
Blocks which have a sound event which can only be experienced through Mining Fatigue:
Azaleas and flowering azaleas
Cave vines
Cherry saplings
Decorated pots
Frogspawn
Crimson fungus and warped fungus
Hanging roots
Honey blocks
Leaf litter
Nether sprouts
Leaf litter
Pink petals and wildflowers
Crimson roots and warped roots
Scaffolding
Small dripleafs
Spore blossoms
Weeping vines and twisting vines
Expected results: either instant-break material types would have no hit sound, or all of them would.
Actual results: all of these sound events exist, practically unused.
