Villagers still offer items in their hands for trades that are out of stock

Summary:

Employed villagers continue holding their offered trade item for locked-out trades until player switches held item

Steps to Reproduce:

  1. Locate or summon an employed villager with an active trade (e.g., Cleric buying Gold Ingots for Emeralds, or Fletcher buying Sticks for Emeralds).

  2. Trade repeatedly until the offer locks out (indicated by a red "X" across the trade arrow).

  3. Exit the trading menu.

  4. Walk up to the villager while continuing to hold the payment item (e.g., Gold Ingot) in your main hand.

  5. Notice the villager continues holding and displaying the reward item (Emerald).

  6. Switch your held hotbar slot away from the payment item (to an empty hand or another item), then switch back to the payment item.

Observed Result:

The villager continues displaying the offered item (Emerald) after the trade is locked out. The item only disappears after the player switches away from the payment item and reselects it.

Expected Result:

Employed villagers should immediately clear the item they hold as soon as the trade offer is locked out, without requiring the player to refresh their held item.

Additional Information / Video Demonstration:

I have also included a different example of this issue showing that it occurs with different villager professions (tested with a Cleric and a Fletcher). The video shows that Wandering Traders do not display this behavior. The item desync occurs only if the payment item is not toggled off and on again with the player's hotbar.
