Melon/pumpkin stem particles are colored even if the texture is white

Relates to MC-132734, MC-169697 and MC-238254.

Particles for melon stems and pumpkin stems, by default, share the same colour as their base block. This is to be expected of most blocks.

Using a custom resource pack to assign a non-colored model and white texture to these blocks will work as expected. However, when breaking, sprinting on, or otherwise generating particles from these blocks, they will appear unexpectedly colored. This is wrong.

A resource pack is attached to this ticket which makes melon stems white. To reproduce:

  • download and apply the resource pack

  • plant melon seeds

  • break them

Expected results: the plant created is white, so the particles generated would also be white.

Actual results: the plant is white, but the particles are unexpectedly green.

To fix: it may be better to just do away with coloring the texture in the first place, and defining a unique texture per growth stage as is done with other crops. The current system appears to have been put in place to save space in terrain.png, but this has been a non-issue since 2013 and we have enough room for the texture files needed (much like the 2025 split of spawn eggs into unique textures rather than two colored textures that were composed later). I’ve attached a proof-of-concept fix resource pack to this ticket as well that implements this fix (though it will be subtly affected by this bug nonetheless until the offending code is removed).
