Description
In 26.3 and 26.4 snapshot 1, switching windows in Exclusive Fullscreen mode did not minimize the game screen. This was extremely useful because it allowed players to open other tasks—such as Notepad, Discord, OBS, a browser, or a calculator—in front of Minecraft while keeping Minecraft visible in the background. While this was a great feature, it became unusable in 26.4 snapshot 2.
The reason it was disabled appears to be due to the following bug report
To accommodate both use cases, adding an in-game setting to toggle minimization ON/OFF would resolve the conflict.
Regarding the comment in that report—"The game window quickly flashes black, then remains visible over the desktop and all other windows, with only the taskbar remaining on top."—I suspect this might not actually be caused by the game not minimizing. Rather, I believe it is more likely related to MC-310086.
Note
One might think that simply using Fullscreen with Exclusive Fullscreen set to OFF would work, but with Exclusive Fullscreen OFF, the window size upon launching Minecraft becomes incorrect (for example, resulting in 3841x2160 instead of 3840x2160).
