When observing icicles under a lave or light source, they however do not melt completely when under that source
Expected Result:
Icicles melt completely under a lave or lave source.
Observed Result:
Icicles do not melt completely under a light or lava source.
To reproduce:
Head over to an ice caves biome and find a lava source with icicles within them, wait for them to melt until the last icicle, you can then notice that it will still persist and not melt and fall

I can reproduce this in 26.4 Snapshot 4.
I tested both upward and downward pointing icicles near lava. In both cases, the icicles melted until only the segment directly attached to a solid block remained. That final segment did not melt, even when tested on its own.

After consideration, the issue is being closed as Working as Intended.
A non-base Icicle eventually melts if hanging right above a Magma Block, or when nearby a Heat Block (Minecraft: Education Edition only).
Please note, that mechanics of the game may change between updates.
Things such as graphics, sounds, world creation, biomes, redstone, villagers, and animals may not work the same in current versions.
