Affects version: 26.3 (Latest Release). Cannot select it in the Affects Minecraft version dropdown (list shows No options).
After updating the launcher and Java Edition to 26.3, the game goes black at random while playing. Audio and the process continue; there is no crash report. This did not happen on the previous drop. Vanilla, no mods, no resource packs.
Not a duplicate of MC-25582 (old Mac fullscreen black), MCL launcher-UI black, MC-307384 (Vulkan fullscreen tearing, marked fixed), or MC-307596 (OpenGL lag, marked fixed).
Steps to reproduce:
1. Apple Silicon, macOS 27, official launcher, Latest Release 26.3.
2. Video Settings: Graphics API Prefer OpenGL; Fullscreen off; Max FPS 60; VSync on. Restart.
3. Load a singleplayer world and play several minutes, windowed, including a large/ultrawide display.
4. Optionally repeat with Prefer Vulkan, then switch back to OpenGL.
Expected result:
The game keeps presenting frames on OpenGL/windowed, as it did before 26.3, without random compositor blackouts.
Actual result:
The view goes fully black at random. The game is still running (pause, save, audio, clean quit with Stopping!). No crash-reports file.
macOS at black-frame time (Java process): CALocalDisplayUpdateBlock returned NO (com.apple.coreanimation:WindowServer).
On at least one 26.3 launch, WindowServer reconfigured the display (mode change / virtual display off) at client start.
Prefer Vulkan (MoltenVK 1.4.2) made the black screens worse. OpenGL is less bad but does not stop them. Windowed mode and max FPS 60 did not fix it.
Cannot roll the world back to 26.2: 26.3 world format; loading in 26.2 emits thousands of Recoverable errors when loading section / Not a map and rewrites region files.
Startup also logs: Unable to parse version 27.0 to a codename.
latest.log from a 26.3 OpenGL session is attached.

Does this issue still occur when you play on your MacBook Pro’s internal display?
Do you notice that the issue only occurs when the window is sufficiently wide and/or short? What are the (approximate) window dimensions at which the issue begins occuring?
Does the fullscreen mode (windowed/exclusive fullscreen/macOS fullscreen) affect anything?
Does the issue still occur with “Max FPS” set to Unlimited?
