The bug
Items with newline characters in their names display it correctly in chat and, as of 26.4-snapshot-7, in the tooltip as well:
However, the hotbar hover text still displays the “LF” placeholder character instead:
How to reproduce
/give @p apple[item_name="multiline\nname"]Select the item in your hotbar
Expected result
The name should appear on two lines
Observed result
It has a control character displayed in the middle of one line
Notes
There is precedent to close this issue: MC-269003 / MC-280306. However, with the recent change to newlines in item tooltips, it’s possible the intended design has changed.
