Mobs can't walk through a wall of nether brick and normal fences, like players can.
1. Build a cage like the one shown.
2. Spawn zombies
3. Stand inside, and the zombies will NOT be able to reach you.

Can confirm. Not sure if intended though...

the same is true of a corridor of glass panes and iron bars, or a single wide corridor with open trapdoors, or doors considered "closed" but yet running alongside the corridor.
more testing reveals that if you set the same sort of idea up with an open row of blocks in the middle, (so the path is functionally two wide) iron golems do not realize that they can make it
Spiders and cave spiders DO come through any of these setups, probably because they can see through walls
It is also worth noting that if you push them in-between with water, they are smart enough to move out (but not continue down the corridor)

Is this still a concern in the current Minecraft version 1.6.4 / Launcher version 1.2.5 ? If so, please update the affected versions in order to best aid Mojang ensuring bugs are still valid in the latest releases/pre-releases.

This is a concern for all mobs with the updated pathfinding AI, even in the latest 14w06b snapshot, and since ALL mobs will have this AI, you can go into the nether surrounded by 4 fence posts and no zombie pigmen will corss the gaps.
confirmed for 14w32b
