Drowning when wearing Aqua Affinity 1

When I wear a Aqua Affinity 1 helmet, I still drown when I'm underwater. I also thought it was suppose to make you dig faster (not sure about that one).

Correct, you mine faster... has nothing to do with the Respiration (water breathing) enchantment.
