Updating did NOT fix it for me. However, it DOES reside in the drivers. I am running Ubuntu 14.04 and only the FOSS drivers work (Xorg), if I use the proprietary ones it fails to.

Hi there,
I believe I found the solution!!! Well, worked for me, at least.
I re-installed my graphics card drivers, for I am a laptop user. I would normally suggest updating it, but since this is a notebook - and the graphics card itself is tampered with by the manufacturer - it would be ideal to reinstall instead.
UPDATE THE GRAPHICS DRIVERS!!!
