Won't stop raining

I was playing on Creative mode, trying to recreate something from another game, when I noticed that it had been raining for a lot longer than usual. I then proceeded to open the console and type "/toggledownfall", but then lightning started to flash and the rain didn't stop. I tried again, and the sky simply flickered from dark to light and dark again.
