Placing damaged armor in the equipped armor slots or placing damaged armor/tools/weapons in the crafting slots inside the inventory causes some of these 8 slots to go black.

I uploaded a screenshot of this bug I have. When I place my piece of armor inside the 2x2 crafting and then mouse over something armor related, it indeed goes black.
confirmed.
ran into this one when i was putting on armor in a random order...
edit: I have found that if you have a chestplate on it makes both the leggings AND the boots slots go whack. (pretty much what jeff said)
Having a similar bug here but with enchanted armor. Clearly seen in the attachment, when putting an enchanted armor on, all the armoricons disappear. Some of them are seen when hovering over a armor slot.
Not happening with non-enchanted armor.

[Mod] violine1101, The armor slots degrade in resolution significantly according to which slots are filled as depicted in bug.png and javaw 2013-10-24 16-25-35-49.png. The same goes for the shield slot.
Wearing any piece of armor but not wearing the piece below it (example: wearing the chestplate but not the leggings) causes the box of the piece(s) below it to become darkened.
