Casting rod while in a boat in creative removes the boat

I'm in creative, I put a boat in water, I right click it to go in, I select a fishing rod, I cast it by right clicking, and the boat disappears. I start sinking if I'm in deep water. The boat does not actually break, it just disappears (from what I can tell).
