If you try to fish a minecart with a fishing rod the minecart will break. Sometimes the cart will drop, other times it won't.

Confirmed. For further clarification: the cart is dropped as item when in creative. Works well in survival.

Cannot confirm this happening in 16w04a. Neither with boats, nor with minecarts.
