World turns black completely

Whilst playing 1.7.2, when I switch to Creative to use the Scroll-click to quick select a block, the entirety of the world turns black. It stays like this until I had changed Mip-Map levels to 0 then returned to the world. (Exited options menus)

It has happened multiple times throughout 1.7.2, yet I have never experienced it before on previous versions.
