Enchanted Books: Unenchantable item can recieve any enchantment.

When enchanting an item with enchanted books in the anvil, an unenchanted item can recieve any enchantement, regardless of whether the item can get that enchanment from an enchanting table, or enchantments at all. The enchantment is functional, so fire aspect on an item will still catch mobs on fire when you hit them.

This occurs in both survival and creative mode.

To duplicate, simply place an item in the left side of the anvil, and an enchanted book in the right hand side with an enchantment the first item can't normally have. The item should recieve the enchantment upon retrieving the item from the output slot.

*Edit: It should be noted that items with an enchantment can no longer recieve any enchantment, only recieving enchantments they could get via enchanting table.
Furthermore, this bug does not occur on enchanted books.

Oh, if someone fixes this, please don't fix it for creative. Thanks 🙂

This will more than likely be fixed in the next snapshot 😞
Also you can use mods, like INVedit, to add enchantments to normal unenchantable blocks and items. 😛

I found another bug as a result of this enchantment book bug: If you enchant a Nerfed Golden Apple (the one made with the Gold Nuggets) in this manner, it doesn't a glow to it. (See "Glowless Apple" picture above for proof.)

This bug is still here in the snapshot 12w50a. Is not fixed...

Are you in creative? That's intended behaviour. If you're in survival, then it's a bug.

Dear Nathan, thanks for explain that 🙂

PS: I've a question for you: Since there isn't any reviewer for the italian language of Minecraft (Crowdin.net Project) can you insert me in that role?
