This crash happens whenever we try to create a new world. We are able to load our saved worlds.
Actually, as I typed in my response, I deleted old saved worlds and can now create new worlds. Is this typical?
Thank you for your help.

While I wouldn't say that it's typical, Minecraft doesn't handle certain unexpected situations very gracefully. In this case, it would appear that it was interrupted while saving one of your worlds, and that world was interfering with the world creation process. It probably had something to do with the names of the worlds or the directories they were stored in. While you can create multiple worlds with the same name, it must store them in different directories, and so it has to check for a existing worlds with the same name so it can determine where to store the new one.
Not a launcher bug. This should be in the "Minecraft" project, not "Minecraft Launcher".
It's also unclear exactly what or when this happened from your report. Does this only occur when loading a specific world?
