You can see that I fall off the block, although I'm holding down Shift all the time. Please fix this, this never happened before 1.7.

Its because the block is disappearing (most likely lag). The block you try to place does place clients but lag slows its placement since for the instant it places client side you can get on it but the server is behind and when it sees your occupying where the block should be it removes it back as it something was in the way, hence you fall.

That came to my mind, yes, because of the block disappearing. BUT, this never happened before 1.7; I'm still on the same server; additionally, if your theory was true, wouldn't the block stay removed? Immediately after I fall down, it comes back again, and stay there.

Didn't see the blocks disappearing on your video at the time due to a horrible system I was using.
