1.7.4 Decreased sapling spawn rates

Sapling yield from oak and birch (others not tested) has decreased significantly. Whereas a 9x9 plot of oak or birch would yield close to or greater than 81 saplings in previous versions, the same size plot now consistently produces around 50% of the planted trees. Although it is purely conjecture, this may be related to decreased mob spawn rates in 1.7.4, which is already a reported bug.

Edit: This issue is much worse in 1.7.2, where yields are closer to 25% of the planted trees

"has decreased significantly" - Since when? What version?

Since the 1.7 update. Leaves yield barely any in 1.7.2 and around 50% of the planted trees in 1.7.4.

Are you breaking the leaves or letting them despawn naturally? You will receive a higher yield if you are patient and let them despawn instead of breaking them.

I have tried both methods and it does not affect the decreased yield

You will receive a higher yield if you are patient and let them despawn instead of breaking them.

Wait, what? That's news to me, and contradicts the information in the wiki.

No, that's actually false. Xisuma showed that as well.

Ah, here's Xisuma's video on that myth. To confirm: Sapling drop rates are the same, regardless of whether you break the leaves by hand, or let them decay on their own.

I can confirm that Birch are yielding less Sapling's for every harvest starting from 1.7 and up, what else explains my Birch Tree Sapling numbers getting smaller? But, others seem to not be affected, or why.
