Chickens not laying eggs

(Affects chickens in both survival and creative)

Chickens will not lay eggs in any world save I play. In survival mode, I can wait around a farm for up to 10 minutes without any eggs being laid, in creative, I create large pits of chickens and wait for 10 minutes- still no eggs. I've tried reinstalling minecraft from scratch and that doesn't seem to solve the problem.
