When switching to "F5 mode" so that you can see the player's whole body, slime blocks have a strange transparency to them when viewed from a certain angle. See the attached image. It seems that this only happens when the player is a few blocks away and is looking at the slime blocks from an angle nearly parallel to the top of the block.
