I have a wireless Logitec Mouse. The Logitec M325.
And Minecraft doesn't recognize the middle scroll as pick block. I tried the "previous" and "next" buttons of my mouse as well and they don't work as well.

I used to have issues with pick block on my plain 2 button + scroll logitec mouse, and it turned out to be he "setpoint" driver that caused the issue. After uninstalling this, the wheel button worked fine. I will also tell you that keyboard and mouse input is handled by the operating system, and the LWJGL libraries used by Minecraft. This means it is very unlikely that Mojang can do anything about it.
That's interesting to know. Sad that those things have to happen. I understand.
Glad I got an explanation.
If it's not going to get fixed, you can always assign 'Pick block' to a different button.
