Creative inventory search - Certain characters don't update results

When I type certain characters into the search bar of the creative inventory, the item results do not update, and all items still display. Typing a second character does cause the search function to work as normal.
The list of letters that don't work are a, c, e, f, i, m, n, r, t.
I noticed that various other numbers and characters also don't work.
