The Weaponsmith villagers sell axes.

This may be intentional, but it seems wrong.

Axes are tools. You use them to chop trees. Not kill. Not weaponry.

Battle axes are weapons... And since MC allows you to put the sharpness enchantment on the axe, it may well be considered both a weapon and tool...

Just to confirm: Yes, Axes are marked as weapons, as far as I know even inside the code as you can apply weapon enchantments to it. Its attack damage is one lower than the sword.
