Villagers Dissapear

I herded all the villagers into a chapel and blocked off the door. There was no where for them to go. One day, they were just gone. All of them. The only thing I can think of is that I had just recently added several "buildings" outside to cause them to multiply. The room they were in was 3 X 7 and I only had 21 active doors/buildings so the max # could only be around 7 or 8.

I don't know where they went. I knew they disappeared because I couldn't hear them one night.

What other info would help? I've saved the game just after it happened and I know the seed number.

Cannot Reproduce
Was the chapel spawn proof? Because I would assume a zombie infected all villagers.

I don't know how to answer that for sure, but if it wasn't, then where did the zombies go?

It was a 3 X 7 room that was completely blocked in (no doors or other exits) except for a ladder that came down but didn't reach the bottom (had to jump to get on it). There was a single torch in the center of the floor, so the light level was fine. As far as I know, that is zombie proof.

I will attempt to reproduce this again.

Hmmmm. Never mind. I forgot that the hole to allow the ladder through would have counted as 'outside' which would allow a zombie to spawn because in a village the light level doesn't prevent this (right?). If that's the case then that's what happened and the zombie villagers must have just despawned. (I know villagers don't despawn, but I'm guessing that zombie villagers must.)

Of course, if I'm wrong about zombies spawning regardless of light level when within a village (v1.7.4) then the room WAS zombie proof and there still IS a bug. Otherwise, my bad.

Zombies of any kind despawn unless named with a name tag or if they picked up an item (if they are able to do that).
