You have better peripheral vision on low render distance

I noticed this for quite some time now, I just now though to report it as a bug. You seem to be able to see further out when looking away from what you are trying to see. So, as you can see in the screenshots, I cannot see the stream of lava when facing it, but when I look away, I can see it just fine.
