Minecraft crashed and removed my map

I was working on my map. I did some work in MCedit then closed the map and opened it in minecraft. After a short time the game crashed - 'java ran out of memory' which happened to me a few times before (crash report included).
I started the game again and while i was waiting for the game to load I tried to open the map in MCedit but it caused error - 'don't know how to open - level.dat is missing'.
When I opened appdata > roaming > .minecraft > my map there was no level.dat or level.dat_old. It just dissapeared causing me to lose many hours of work since my last backup.

Btw is there any way to get it back?

A forum post which explains how to allocate more RAM to Minecraft can be found here: http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/1395030-allocate-more-memory-for-minecraft/

If you create a world with the same name, you should get back your world files at least, but your inventory will be gone. There is no way to recover a missing file.

Ohhh. Thank you so much. I would ragequit if I had to do it again.

Anyway this doesn't mean the problem is fixed even http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/1395030-allocate-more-memory-for-minecraft/ doesn't fix it. I crashed many times before and nothing like this happened...
The ram problem is also caused by bugs in the game because normally when i play even on max render and lot of entities around it takes like 60% of the space and sometimes it takes 100% even on peaceful and render distance 2 chunks...

Your system is not powerful enough to run Minecraft on full settings.
