I found out that when you change any Keybindings from your keyboard to the 1-9 slots, the changed keys won't work in Creative Inventory search screen.
What I expected to happen was...:
That the Keys still work if you use them to input a text into the Creative Inventory search text field.
What actually happened was...:
The Game handled the Keys as the hotbar 1-9 keys, but you can't type in any sort of Text.
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Open Settings
2. Change the Hotbar 1-9 keys to some others (I changed the "1-9" keys to "y-." [German Keyboard Layout])
3. Try to type something in the Creative Inventory Item Search box, using the changed keys.
Sorry for spelling or grammar Issues 😃
(I would also have some good Ideas for future versions of the Game, when Interested please E-Mail 😃)

Fixed / Works As Intended
If the cursor is on an item, it will put the item in the correct slot while pressing the key. If the key is outside of the inventory, the key works just fine. Either Fixed or never a problem.
I have the following bindings on Minecraft 1.8.1.
R - Inventory
G - Hotbar Slot 1
B - Hotbar Slot 2
Here are steps that reproduce this bug for me.
Open inventory
Select Search Items tab
Close inventory
Press 'R' to open inventory
Type the word "rabbit"
What I expect to happen:
Enter the word "rabbit" into the search box.
What happens:
The letters "ra" go into the search box, then the contents of the search box are deleted.
The problem seems to be when you open the inventory, the mouse is positioned over a random item in the middle of the inventory. Because the letter 'B' is bound to a hot bar slot, instead of the letter 'b' going into the search box, the random item under the mouse goes into the hotbar slot.
The hotbar functionality may be deliberate, but the interaction between this feature and the mouse positioning make it hard to use the inventory in creative mode.
Confirmed.
