If you stand on top of Soul Sand or in water, the sky darkens. The sky is noticeably darker when on Soul Sand than when in water. The held item also darkens.
I'm not sure if this has anything to do with it, but the world I was playing in was a Superflat and my render distance was 5 chunks.

I used the search function, but it's spelled "soulsand" in that issue. I spelled it "soul sand", so that issue didn't come up (none did, as I searched for issues that affect 14w08a).
