Fullscreening sometimes causes PC to BSOD

Pressing f11 as well as alt tabbing out of fullscreen can SOMETIMES crash my computer resulting in a BSOD. Using the fullscreen option in the video settings has not caused any issues, however. None of my other games will do it. Even stranger, is that the BSODs seem to be a random type of crash. it never did this before i de-bloated windows 7: http://img4.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20121226001657/installgentoo/images/2/2c/Windows7_debloat.png
if needbe I could attach my BSOD crash logs.
my friends Nvidia build does exactly the same thing.
my brothers pc, which was the test subject for the de bloating process, never does this despite having similar specs.

Please update your graphics card drivers following these instructions: Updating Graphics Card Drivers.

  • If you are using Java arguments to increase the amount of memory, please reduce it to the default 512MB.

  • Do not rely on automatic searches for driver updates.

  • Do not use Windows Update or Device Manager - Microsoft doesn't install OpenGL, they promote DirectX.

  • If you know the brand and type of your graphics card, go to the links provided above and search manually for the most recent driver for your card. The automatic detection tools of the card manufacturers are not recommended.

If all that won't help, please use the Mojang Support Center.

This has happened with my last 3 graphics cards, both nvidia and amd. I launch allocating 2gb. I have never run windows update. It has to be something with minecraft.

I have never run windows update

Hm.

Minecraft - since a Java application - cannot cause a BSOD. Broken graphics drivers and broken underlying windows libraries can.

How would I go about fixing this? All my other games I run full screen such as terraria, tf2, gmod, portal,1 and 2, can't crash it at all. I literally just got my new HD 6850 direct cuii last week, and my friend got his gtx 770.its odd that the fullscreen button causes no issues, but f11 or alt tab will.

Download & install AMD Catalyst 13.12 http://support.amd.com/en-us/download/desktop?os=Windows+7+-+64

Update your Java to the latest version (1.7.0_51): http://www.java.com/en/download/.

  • When using a 32-bit browser on a 64-bit operating system the automatic version detection will only show the 32-bit version of Java, the 64-bit version needs to be downloaded manually: http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp.
