This bug affects only 1.7.2 and up.
I recently Updated my Minecraft to play around with the new stuff, I usually play Modpacks (1.6 and below). It ran as I expected it to until I equipped a torch in hand.
After that every texture in the game instantly broke and was permanent on the world. The same thing would happen if I took out a torch In new world.
My Java, PC, and Drivers are all up to date (my Video Card is also slightly overclocked).
The Picture is In game (after I have taken out a equipped a torch in hand) and the Item in my hot bar is a Torch.
Please reply at your earliest convenience as I would like to play Minecraft.
