[MC-51956] viruses are downloaded

whenever i open minecraft, it downloads viruses onto my computer, which makes a lot of popups. i dont know if a downloaded it bad or something, but it is destroying the computer...

You should only download Minecraft from https://minecraft.net/download, and nowhere else. I recommend deleting what you downloaded and trying again, this time going directly to https://minecraft.net/download.

thanks, i was thinkng of doing that already, but ill lose my single player worlds, wont i?

Run a virus scan over your saves folder. If it finds nothing back the whole folder up and re-add it once the reinstall is finished. However if your virus scanner was wrong about finding nothing in them you might still be infected afterwords. I don't know offhand if level data has permissions enough for a virus to do anything hinky or if it needs to infect the programming folders instead.

You shouldn't have to worry about infected folders in .minecraft, because the minecraft game won't run anything that isn't supposed to be there.

Deleting the minecraft app / exe / jar will not delete your worlds.
