What I expected to happen was...:
The Tripwires to connect properly, despite part of the line hovering mid-air.
What actually happened was...:
The Mid-air Tripwire became a half-block and refused to connect to the normal line unless I leveled the ground. They both had to be floating, or they both had to be on the ground.
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Set up two tripwire hooks, with one side being in mid-air and the other side on the ground.
2. Place your line of string to attempt to connect the tripwire hooks.
3. Congratulations! Half-Block Tripwires!
