In an interior room in survival mode, paintings and item frames placed on a wall immediately below the ceiling don't stay floating in the room when destroyed, but instead fly off through the ceiling and end up outside somewhere. Having to run outside to collect a flyaway painting is especially a problem when repeatedly placing/destroying paintings, in order to find and use a specific image. If the painting or item frame is placed two blocks down from the ceiling and then destroyed, it still bounces up, but stays in the room. Please see image.

It does drop them above the ceiling or behind walls. For now, just leave the top layer off or create a 1 block space of air above them.
If you place hoppers behind, above, and to the sides of the item frames, it should catch the items most of the time, if not all the time.
You don't have to use these alternatives if you don't want to.
