Tamed, Named cats despawning

Had a tamed and named cat sitting on a bed in a house above ground. I went down underground to fight some monsters on easy difficulty. Time went by, and I heard zombies pounding on my doors back above ground, so I changed the difficulty to peaceful and ran back up. When I checked on the house, my cat was no longer there on the bed. I was absolutely certain the cat was seated when I left, and that it was on easy mode when I was fighting monsters underground.

I wasn't able to reproduce this on 1.7.9.

Was your cat a kitten? There is a bug where a sitting kitten or puppy will teleport to the owner when it grows up. It's possible your kitten grew up and teleported down into the cave without you realizing it.

I have observed cats disappearing in 1.8.1. I had several cats with me while traveling, some tamed from the wild and some kittens of the tamed cats. They all disappeared without any trace or indication of what happened to them. I retraced my steps to see if they had failed to teleport, but I couldn't locate them. It appears that they despawned as this issue describes.

The server crashed around the time the cats disappeared, but this may not be related.

in 1.8.3 i have had a tamed cat revert to wild twice. i think it despawned shortly after the 2nd time. i named it between first & second reversions. i don't know if the name tag was still on it after the second reversion, all i saw was a yellow streak in a place which normally has no cats. in both cases i'm just assuming it reverted; it may have just disappeared.

btw i also had a tamed, named, saddled & armored horse dissappear. the horse lasted about 3 months (irl) before dissapearance, but the cats(s) only a few ,days. the horse dissappearance followed a period of severe lag (in singleplayer).

Is this still an issue in the most recent versions (i.e. 1.10.2, or 16w42a) of Minecraft?
