[MC-55915] "/give <playername> barrier" doesn't work

The /give command works perfectly, except I can't seem to get the barrier block for some reason. I've tried so many times, but the game keeps saying "There is no such item with ID barrier." I've tried the same thing using minecraft:barrier.

Try this /give {PLAYER} minecraft:barrier

In 1.7 and 1.8 you need to use /give minecraft:{ITEM_NAME}

No actually you don't. They'll probably make it mandatory eventually but you currently don't need the "minecraft:" beginning. give @p barrier works fine, so long as you don't misspell it as barriar or capitalize it or something like that.
