I don't know why but...
as you can see on the screenshot, the comparator clock is not working on any other comparators, somewhere else on the Minecraft map (from where the screenshot is) the clock worked, so ... I don't know how it happened.
The comparator that is pointing to the west, has an output of 0
the comparator that is pointing to the east, has an output of 1
I also replaced them, updated them, etc. but nothing changed.
The Map is running on a server (private) so not in singleplayer.

qmagnet is right it isn't really reliable
I built some clocks too and the removed some and just because of this a comparator which was always on before was after replacing it always off
Clearly something strange going on here. Tested in 1.7.10, I keep getting different results.

Seems this may be a duplicate of or at least related to MC-41006
Tested in 14w21b. It's not just the direction. It's how you power the comparator. Different combinations do different things. I can't definitively pinpoint what is causes the changes but I made a video. Possibly completely random or possibly visual? So I think the description should say something more like the output with comparators isn't reliable.
