When destroying blocks in survival mode, they crack, disappear, and then reappear instantaneously, and then actually disappear and produce pickups a second later.

How is it a technical limitation when 1.7.2 didn't have the annoying lag that people are getting? I just think it should be looked in to a little more that just everyone saying is not a bug!
@dustin milbourn, Lag isn't a bug! Although not an official source, Wikipedia has an article regarding lag from online gaming that I think you should see: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lag_(online_gaming)
This is likely just a result of new features requiring more processing power, but if you can provide some more information, it can be looked into. The contents of the development console and a manually triggered crash report may provide some insight.
The "Development console" can be found on the second tab of the launcher.
If the launcher closes after game start, please edit your profile and select "Launcher visibility" then, "Keep the launcher open". Please copy the complete output of the development console into a text file and attach it to the ticket.
A crash report can be generated by pressing F3 + C for 10 seconds while in-game. Attach the crash report ([minecraft|http://hopper.minecraft.net/help/finding-minecraft-data-folder]/crash-reports/crash-<DATE>-client.txt) here.
This is due to lag, which is a technical limitation. See MC-21956
