Enderman standing in water when following players

I have been noticing that Enderman have been walking into to water when following players. In most occasions they would wait a few seconds before teleporting away, even when taking damage multiple times. My friends have also been noticing this and were unsure if this is part of the snapshot, or a bug. We Had not never experienced this before so we felt it was important to report it. This was on a multiplayer server running 14w21b.
