I too have witnessed this bug, but with dark oak trees. Blocks dropped are textured the aforementioned pink and black squares, labeled "Oak Wood" (id #0162/5)

I've seen this as well. The block texture dropped by Acacia trees is made of black and pink squares and labelled "Oak Wood".
