Confirmed for me in singleplayer. Possibly only affects certain environments. I am Windows 8.

Confirmed. Can anyone also confirm that item frames don't display the names of named items in them?

Confirmed in singleplayer.

Possible cause: Item frames are some times placed inside the block but rendering outside, causing the black frame effect and the bug Early Reflections mentioned in a comment.

On single player, they're not black, but very dark. That may possibly be a new feature or in another bugreport though.
