I have the same problem, and I am using if I am using snapshots 14w25a - 14w30c. I have just about no graphical lag, but the mobs seems to take 1 step at a time when they try to walk, and when I hit them, they fly up, wait half a second, then fly some more, wait half a second, fly down, wait half a second, land.
