Farmland has missing texture in inventory

If you use the command

/give @p farmland 1

you will receive a block of farmland that lacks a texture inside your inventory. The block can be placed and when it is placed it becomes a normal block of farmland, but inside the inventory it shows the familiar black and purple checkerboard pattern.
