You cannot create an iron golem

I have had this same problem in the current snapshot but have not been able to reproduce it. I put down the iron blocks as usual, but when I added the pumpkin he didn't spawn. I then picked up the iron blocks and pumpkin and tried again in the same place and orientation, and it didn't spawn. Only when I moved it a couple blocks over and tried it did it work.

Well, I was able to reproduce it. Many of these golems didn't spawn, but some did. The ones I made atop trees and atop a black wool lamp did work.

@@unknown: This is MC-60792 - there must not be any grass or wheat below the "arm" of the iron golem for it to spawn.

Since the introduction of 1.8 I can no longer spawn an Iron Golem. The process worked fine before the update, I would place the Iron blocks, and add a pumpkin on top and the golem would spawn.
