mobs rarely spawn

so im playing minecraft with my 2 brothers on a LAN world. and mobs rarely spawn! im playing on the latest snapshot: 14w32a. i dont see hostile mobs in caves or at night. only like one per night. it only affects some wolrds. ive made a new world and mobs spawn great. also i play on normal.
