Pistons Not Retracting When Powered Redstone Is Diagonal From Them

When a powered redstone block is placed diagonally from a piston, and the piston is unpowered, it remains expanded instead of retracting as it should. I have tested this bug in versions 1.0 through the snapshots for version 1.8. The issue, strangely enough, does not work in reverse. If the piston is unpowered to begin with, and you attempt to power it from diagonally, it will not expand. If anyone else is experiencing this issue and has anything to add to it, please do so!

I have uploaded a video to youtube that goes more in-depth with the issue. It can be found at: http://youtu.be/-HKJMXbFX5M

This is famously coined as a BUD or Block Update Detector
http://minecraft.gamepedia.com/Tutorials/Block_update_detector#Piston_Based

The "glitch" is so widely accepted and exploited in the Minecraft community, I think there would be an uproar if Mojang actually fixed it. The BUD occurs when you power a signal from above the piston.

See MC-108 for full information.

The video should be fixed now. I had to actually upload it O.o

Please read our comments. Mojang will likely never fix this bug.

I did read it qmagnet. To be honest, I think if anything, they need to add an actual "bud switch" into the game. A block that detects block changes, instead of making the community rely on a bug (which might I add, makes no logical sense) that has been around for as long as pistons have.

Grum said he may do that. Either way I posted that comment because you fixed the video after we told you this bug was already reported.

Even if we do get a 'BUD block', they will likely keep piston ones too, to avoid majorly breaking compatibility with older redstone machines which rely on BUD switches. The new block would simply be a more compact alternative. Kinda in the same way how even after they added hoppers, they didn't remove the thing where items go really fast in water streams with ice under, because removing that would A) break tons of things, B) make people have to go get resources for hoppers and rebuild it.
